We've come to that time of year again when we all start sharing our favourite beauty products of the year and I have thrown in a few old favourites as well as some new kids on the block that have really stood out to me this year. This post could be pages and pages long with all the little beauty discoveries I have found this year but I have whittled it down to 14, to pay homage to 2014; shall we get started then?
First up is a haircare duo from L'occitane that has really made a huge difference to my parched locks since I started using them together, and if it wasn't for the wince-worthy price tag,I would go on using these two indefinitely. Although the days of dying my hair purple are long behind us, my hair still definitely leans towards the dry side of things as opposed to greasy and I only need to wash it two-three times a week. The L'occitane Repairing Shampoo for Dry and Damaged Hair and the L'occitane Repairing Conditioner for Dry and Damaged Hair is fantastic for really dry hair that can be a bit of a pain to comb through as it adds in a lot of moisture, keeping the hair silky soft and manageable, but not greasy. A pump of each and I am good to go, a little goes a long way so I suppose that kind of makes up for the price tag.
Next up is a fragrance, and I'm not really a perfume person but this one just takes the biscuit. I picked up the Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream was one I picked up on a whim at the airport on my way to Greece after hearing so many rave reviews, I knew I had to try it out for myself; and I wasn't disappointed. I'm not the best person to describe perfumes but I am going to give it a go here - I would say that it is a floral and fruity fragrance with notes of blackberry, grapefruit and pear. There are also flecks of jasmine, lychee, blue wisteria, white woods, musks and coconut water; a perfume perfect for the warmer months but, I love this feminine fragrance so you will probably be smelling it on me all year round!
I don't really know how to describe this next section, but I think I'll opt with health and well-being...? Anyway, everything comes from the same brand, This Works. The love affair first began with their This Works Deep Sleep Dream Cream and the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray which I first got back in May for my birthday. They are both packed with all kinds of essential oils and I really do think that these have made a huge difference to my sleep pattern and the way I approach bed time. The smell of lavender really calms me before bed and by having it on both my hands and sprayed onto my pillow and blanket, you are absolutely immersed into a really calm environment, ready for sleep. Next up from the same range is the This Works Sleep Plus+ Pillow Spray, which is basically an intensified version of the original pillow spray and comes in a smaller bottle (ideal for travelling) and the This Works Deep Sleep Bath Soak which is a really lovely blend of lavender and vetivert salts to help you get a good nights sleep.
Next up I'm going to talk about skincare, and I am quite lucky that I have pretty good skin, with the occasional breakout but that's all hormone-related, if anything my skin leans towards the drier end of the spectrum. I switch up my cleansers quite a lot but the one I have kept going back to this year is the Balance Me Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm. I absolutely love this stuff and I think it is a bit of an unsung hero in the blogsphere. It's a really fragrant balm but it has not once broken me out and is aimed at normal, dry or sensitised skin. It’s absolutely jam-packed full of powerful anti-oxidants such as Arctic cloudberry and fine oat powder to soothe, smooth and add radiance to skin, without irritating it. The mixture of pure active extracts such as camellia, kukui nut and rosehip oils with cocoa, mango and shea butters easily dissolve daily grime and make-up (even waterproof mascara) to leave skin soft and clean, whilst a blend of English camomile and red mandarin essential oils soothe and soften. To tone I have been loving the Nuxe Gentle Toning Lotion with Rose Petals, I just find it really gentle and refreshing on the skin, and I'm a sucker for anything rose scented...which brings to my moisturiser! I have been loving the Korres Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturising & Brightening Cream (with SPF), my skin feels baby-soft after using this and my make up applies beautifully afterwards, it's just a really lovely everyday moisturiser if your looking for something to add radiance and brightness back into the skin.
That leaves us with makeup, and I have to say choosing four products was incredibly difficult but I think I have chosen a good line up, that have stood me in good stead for 2014. First up is a mascara that I received for my birthday and it is the Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara, and oh my gosh guys, I think this is the one. It adds the perfect amount of volume and curl to the lashes as well as lengthening them like nothing I have ever used before. I know it's a pricey brand, but I honestly cannot recommend this stuff enough. Next is a foundation that I was pretty late to the game with and that is the L'oreal True Match Liquid Foundation (in the shade C1 Rose Ivory FYI), which is just beautiful. The coverage is buildable and this finish is just perfect, the shade match and shade selection is also really good which is surprising because if you're pale like me it can be really tricky to find a drugstore foundation that works, but trust me this one is flawless. Finally we have two lip products, the first one is by MAC in the shade Ruby Woo, a really beautiful, classic, blue-toned red that you can rely on to stay put all day. I love the matte finish and the sleek black bullet is perfect handbag size. Next up, and my final product of 2014 is (drum roll pleeease!) is the Hourglass Ambient Blush in Diffused Heat - a really beautiful blush/highlight hybrid with poppy undertones, I use this stuff pretty much everyday and I haven't even hit pan yet so you really do get what you pay for, and I cannot recommend picking one of these up if you're on the hunt for a new blush/highlight set.
And that concludes my 2014 favorites, let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below and tweet me with your favorite products of 2014 too!
