Summer Makeup Bag Tour
As much as I love the colder months, I do get super excited for summer. Those few fleeting weeks of sunshine in England are the perfect excuse to ditch muted colours and dive into the depths of my stash and give a new lease of life to more summer-friendly products. WARNING - this is a fairly lengthy post so maybe make yourself nice and comfy with a (large) mug of tea!
I have only ever used bronzer in my very early teens, with disastrous results, so I was really intrigued by the Body Shop's Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder which seemed perfectly apt for the pastier gals. After picking up a few bits from their website, it was finally time to knock my fears of looking like a wotsit on the head. This bronzer is so creamy and feels like velvet once applied, their wide range of shades is perfect for girls that don't want that questionable orange cake-y hue but want to look a bit more summer ready. I need to get a better brush for applying it, but I tend to just use it where the sun would naturally hit and hey-presto my complexion has a new lease of life. Another great way of applying it is following the shape of the number 3 - starting at the top near your hairline and following it through to the hollows of your cheeks, finishing with a light dusting by your chin and neck - a technique a novice such as myself would find super simple.
This next little number is possibly the most beautiful blush to ever grace my cheeks and I simply don't have a bad word to say about it. I am talking about the Hourglass Ambient Blush in the shade Diffused Heat. If you haven't already heard about these blushes...where have you been?! I would have to describe them as a blushing-and-highlighting-hybrid, and they are just beautiful. After staring at them in Space NK with puppy dog eyes I finally picked up a coral-poppy toned number paired with Diffused Light to really light up the complexion. If I haven't sold you yet, just look at the packaging! It's beautiful and takes pride of place on my dressing table.
Faking that "sun-kissed glow" is something I have found a whole lot easier since receiving the Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base (phew) for my nineteenth last month. It's a really beautiful formula and is perfect for those lazy days as it gives the skin such a fresh, dewy finish as well as awakening the complexion. This works perfectly on its own, particularly when you are having a "good skin day", but if I have a few imperfections I want to hide I add a few drops alongside my Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser - a dream-team I have become really fond of recently.
Continuing with base products, I cannot be without the YSL Touche Éclat. I suffer with horrendous dark circles due to a mix of insomnia, Netflix binges and and keeping up with my favourite blogs last thing at night, but this little beauty works by concealing dark circles and boosting your best features. It's a really great little option for accentuating the brow bone as well as priming the lids for eyeshadow, FYI.
I have truly horrendous hay-fever in the warmer months and it causes havoc with my make-up, particularly mascara. Something I have been reaching for more and more frequently is the Clarins Truly Waterproof Mascara because it is the only mascara I have come across that is actually waterproof. My eyes get so irritated by the pollen that they become really red and inflamed and by the end of the day I'm super teary,. I know that description paints a really flattering image but read on. This stuff stays put through all of that! It's jet black and coats the lashes with ease as well as adding length and volume quickly and easily. Admittedly, it's a bit of a pain in the arse to get off at night but the staying power is worth that extra swipe of bioderma, especially for hay-fever sufferers.
Topshop's Glow Highlighter in Polish is a great little option, especially for taking away on holiday as it is so diddy and travel friendly. I tend to dab it onto the highest points of my cheeks with my fingertips and then buff it all in for a really dewy, natural finish.
Eyeliner is something I've always really loved and after a few dodgy run-ins with a heavy kohl liner in my early teens , I have finally mastered a cat flick to the best of my ability! That being said, I have been really loving this turquoise offering from Nars in the shade Khao San Road to brighten things up with minimal effort. The pencil is so soft and it just lasts and lasts - thumbs up to Nars on this one, can't wait to get my paws on some other colours!
Finally, last up on the list is lipstick. I'm a lipstick lover so the fact that I have put one in this post and not five is an achievement in itself! Mamma Tee treated me to this after having a fairly rough term at uni, and I have been wearing it almost non-stop ever since! The product in question is non other than the Chanel Rouge Allure in the shade Melodieuse. Chanel have really struck gold with this formula, it's the perfect blend of sheer and pigmented, offering a seriously impressive colour pay-off as well as great coverage. I would describe this is as a pink-coral shade with a really beautiful satin finish. I could probably write an entire essay on how much I love this stuff, but you guys should just trust my judgement on this one because it's gorgeous.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and as always I would love to know your thoughts down below! :)
