On a recent jaunt round Bath I happened to stumble into MAC (as one does...), on the hunt for the perfect matte nude. No one does both mattes and lipsticks better than MAC so it made sense to head on over to the counter and get swatching.
I have quite small hands so by the time I was finished, I was covered in swatches of every nude they do and started working up my wrist.I considered Twig, Brave and Kinda Sexy but the formulas weren't what I was looking for and they were all a little too pink and rosey to work for my complexion. When I was satisfied I had a good lot to choose from I thrust my lipstick covered hand in front of my mum (who was getting her makeup done) and said which one?! She immediately pointed to a matte brown with pink undertones; and that my friends is how the love affair with Velvet Teddy began.
MAC's website describe it as a "deep toned beige". and I would say that is a pretty accurate depiction. It has the perfect blend of a deep, cappuccino brown paired with really subtle antique pink undertones. Seeing as I was searching for the perfect nude, I could not be happier to add this cult classic "Kylie Jenner" (cliche, but it had to be said) to my collection. It doesn't give me foundation lips or wash me out at all, it just works and I haven't worn anything else since!
One thing worth noting is that I tend to pair it with MAC's lip liner in Whirl to really beef up my lips and add a bit more depth if I am wearing it in the evening, just to intensify the brown a bit more.
Have you tried Velvet Teddy? If so, I would love to know your thoughts!
